COLLEGE COUNSELING

College Counseling includes the following attributes and is delivered through onsite counselors. In addition to working with an onsite Counselor, each student is paired with an American College Counselor (“ACC”) who provides several of the following in tandem with onsite counselors (see Ten Point System below). All ACC’s are highly pedigreed Asian professionals who themselves graduated from elite
American schools.

Ten Point System

1. School Selection: Every applicant presents a unique background and set of preferences, and different schools offer distinct value propositions. The purpose of school selection is to create a list of schools that not only matches the preferences and capabilities of each student, but also to account for myriad constraints such as geography, intended concentration availability, and so forth. Perhaps most important, the final school list must fully explore the upside potential of the applicant, yet at the same time also protect from downside risk by way of safety schools.

2. Essay Guidance and Editing/Re-write: At the heart of Asian Ivy Labs’ college consultation is guidance on an often ill-regarded aspect of admissions – essays! Essays provide applicants with a golden opportunity to tell their story, state their purpose and convey their passions. Stellar essays can and often do make the difference between an admit and deny. Your Asian Ivy Labs American Admissions Consultant will advise you on proper topics, brainstorm with you, instruct on how to write your first drafts and then take all the liberty that is required to make your essays sing.

3. Recommendation Guidance/Assistance: Critical to a strong application are excellent recommendation letters. Recommendation letters from people and with content that echo your essays serve to frame a unified application and reinforce the authenticity of your stated interests, goals and passions. Your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will advise you on whom to approach for recommendation letters, and when possible, assist in their creation.

4. Volunteer/Community Enhancement: Many times, and in particular at top tier schools, an applicant’s commitment to their community can make or break an application. The problem is that many applicants realize this later rather than sooner. Your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will help to source a range of volunteer opportunities that won’t take you months to complete and yet at the same time, will align with your background and goals so as not to appear as “last ditch” efforts to appease admissions committees.

5. Application Timing: An applicant’s plan of attack for application submission is crucial to maximizing admit yield. Your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will create a submission timing strategy not only to ease the application process, but importantly, to facilitate acceptance at your preferred schools, such as through Early Decision/Action.

6. Mock Interview: Many times, applicants are requested to interview either in person or over the phone with an admissions committee member or alumnus. This can be a daunting process for applicants. However, your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will conduct a lengthy mock (phone) interview with you in order to ensure that you are fully prepared for the real thing!

7. Financial Aid/Scholarship Advice & Assistance: Minimizing the cost of your educational expenses can not only ease the strain on the wallet but also make seemingly expensive options attainable. Asian Ivy Labs possesses the most comprehensive database of scholarships, alternative grant and loan sources for Chinese students available today. Whether through institutional bursaries, third party grants or loans, your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will work hard to ensure that you will have access to the requisite funding for your pending educational odyssey.

8. Waitlist Strategies: Though rarely a welcomed response, a waitlist decision is the gateway to acceptance. If and when you are waitlisted, your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will apply decade-tested waitlist strategies to put you over the top and get you in!

9. Where to Enroll: After the admit tickets roll in, you will need to determine where to enroll. The enrollment decision depends on numerous variables including expense, institutional brand equity, placement success and several other factors. Your Asian Ivy Labs American College Consultant will work with you to arrive at a well informed decision on the best place for you to enroll.

10. Everything in Between: Did we miss anything? Well... nobody’s perfect. In the course of every consult, issues may emerge that are not herein enumerated, but are nonetheless important to your admissions chances.
